Almamy Soumaré, hailing from Wompou, Mauritania, epitomises innovation and sustainability. His extraordinary journey began in France, where he pursued a year of French language studies and an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics for Social Sciences, enriching his academic skills.

Immersed in the values of rural life and environmental stewardship among local farmers, he developed a deep sensitivity to environmental issues. In Senegal, Almamy continued his educational journey, furthering his studies in Business Administration, thereby deepening his understanding of natural resource management and the socio-economic challenges facing African communities.

Returning to Wompou, Almamy quickly recognized the urgent need to promote a sustainable approach to natural resource management. As an elected municipal councilor in May 2023, he successfully advocated for the integration of nature-based solutions into local development plans. Additionally, as a representative of Ets Bouga Té AgriServices, a socially-oriented individual enterprise, he was recognised by the Ministry of Environment for his sustainable agricultural practices in October 2022.

In November 2022, Almamy achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the NbS-IUCN Global Standard certification. This recognition bolstered his credibility as a champion of nature-based solutions and opened doors to networks of experts and international organisations. Through his continued commitment to learning and networking, he broadened his horizons and solidified his position as an enlightened leader in the field of sustainability.

On January 30, 2024, Almamy's efforts bore fruit as the municipal council adopted new development plans fully incorporating nature-based solution principles.
