Hello! I am Maria, a Nature based solutions programme officer in IUCN Euro.
I am originally from the sunny Spain, but I am currently working and living in the cloudy Brussels.
I studied architecture and restoration ecology and had a great experience as a practitioner bringing back nature in urban environments. I am currently working in the interface between science and policy, contributing to the creation of a robust NbS community.
I cannot wait to do this course, to have a solid understanding of the real-life application of the NbS standards, in order to promote its use across sectors and stakeholders.

My name is Diyana Kostovska. I am a project manager at the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, one of the biggest non-governmental environmental organizations in Bulgaria. My most recent experience – the Lagoon of Life project involved restoring the ecological processes that support the unique wetland ecosystem of the coastal lagoon of Atanasovsko Lake, both the richest bird site in Bulgaria and the largest salt production site in the urban area of Burgas city on the Black Sea coast.
I believe that this course will help me not only to better understand what NbS is but also to get some practical ideas that I can use in my work.
I hope that the various exchanges will enable us all to gain a wide range of knowledge and understanding to our respective areas of work, and I enjoy interacting with all of you.
